Out with the old, in with the new

I would happily discard “pen and paper” for a more convenient and trendier laptop or a phone. Because it’s so much cooler to use these gadgets and not to mention the convenience of accessing them anytime and anywhere. “Pen and Paper” is definitely old school and it’s so boring. I mean who cares if it brings back your childhood memories. I have thousands of photos clicked in my smartphone and even though I don’t exactly have a second look at those clicks after selecting the best among them for my social media account. Childhood memories can go for a toss because I have a cool gadget which keeps reminding me of my memories with a customized set of photos. And, I don’t even have to worry about the number of photos I click, because my intelligent device backs them up in the cloud. Wow, it’s like having an extended memory.
“Pen and Paper” would at best remind you of the distinct scent that brand-new books carried. I was actually excited at the prospect of waiting for the latest edition of the new Gotham comics because our local bookstore had to get it from across the river. And the first thing I did after purchasing new books was to smell it. How silly of me! I don’t have to wait for that new book now. My intelligent device takes care of that. It even suggests new books based on my reading history, even though I have never tried the recommendations. So cool! I don’t need to share my books with my friends now, nor do I need to borrow books from my friends.
I can’t believe it that we took turns to read the whole Harry Potter series because only one among our friends had it. And we had to get out of our rooms and meet up to discuss the latest adventure by the famous five and the secret seven. Now, we can easily do that in our WhatsApp groups and Facebook fan pages. We fancied ourselves as wizards and tried all the spells, even the dark ones which weren’t allowed by the ministry of magic to be used on muggles. Definitely, Dumbledore wouldn’t have approved of us back then.
But now, I’m spoiled by the plethora of choices that I have at my disposal. Yes, it’s amazing that I keep scrolling through my choices and keep scrolling and keep scrolling… In the end, I decide maybe it’s better if I watch an episode of a cool series that took the internet by storm recently. So, first I need to invest some more amount of time scrolling through my social media pages. Oh, but I need to select the best among them because I have to brag it on social media with my satire and sarcastic posts. But I’m not mainstream, and I don’t like to be associated with the normal internet crowd because they are dumb. So, I shall dedicate a good amount of time in researching among the off-beat shows available in one of the many platforms that I have subscribed to. Yes, this is definitely better than the times when I used to lie down on my bed with a pile of novels and comics because summer vacations just began.
Who cares about “pen and paper” anyway!
